Student Ambassadors Highlight Fall 2026 TEK Courses at Honors College Event
In partnership with Lewis Honors College, student ambassadors from Transdisciplinary Educational Approaches to Advance Kentucky (TEK) met with students and academic advisors to highlight TEK's mission of bridging disciplines to address complex, real-world challenges facing the Commonwealth. These connections took place at the Honors event "Donuts with the Dean" - a monthly event that offers a relaxed, informal space where students can connect with peers, faculty, and college leadership over breakfast.
Tabling at "Donuts with the Dean" provided TEK with an ideal platform to demonstrate how transdisciplinary thinking works in practice. Rather than presenting itself as an organization limited to a specific academic track, TEK engages students from diverse majors, inviting them to see how their unique perspectives could contribute to broader problem-solving efforts. TEK is grounded in the belief that no single field can fully tackle issues such as public health, environmental sustainability, or economic development. Instead, it promotes collaboration across areas like engineering, social sciences, the arts, and public policy to generate more holistic and impactful solutions.
With open registration beginning on April 1, the event came at a pivotal moment when students were actively planning their fall schedules and considering new academic opportunities. TEK ambassadors were able to connect the transdisciplinary mission of TEK to tangible academic offerings that align with student needs and will equip them with the essential skills necessary for success in today's workforce.
Students who may not have previously considered involvement in cross-disciplinary initiatives found themselves drawn into conversations about Kentucky’s most pressing issues and the role they could play in addressing them. TEK members emphasized experiential learning, community engagement, and innovation, reinforcing the idea that education is most powerful when it connects knowledge across boundaries.
